You Had a Baby at Almost 50 – What Were You Thinking?!” – Relatives Scolded Over the Phone

*Diary Entry*

“What were you even thinking, having a baby at your age?” My family spat those words down the phone, sharp as knives.

Im 46. A month ago, I gave birth to twinsa boy, Oliver, and a girl, Imogen. Words cant capture what I feel when I look at them. Happiness, joy, tears, warmth swelling inside me until I could burst.

Yet neither my mother nor my sister came to the hospital. My husbands family ignored the birth too. All because of our age.

I never thought much about children when I was young, honestly. Back then, I lived carefreenights out clubbing, cocktails, admirers. What more could a girl want? My heart sang with happiness.

Then, at 22, I met Edward. Handsome, bearded, glasses, a quick wit. Women flocked to him, but he chose *me*. I wont lieit did wonders for my confidence. He had a flat, a car, a family business. His parents owned several clothing shops in London, making good money.

I thought Id found my prince. Edward was my ticket to an easy life. I dreamed of a fairytale wedding, a honeymoon in Spain.

But to him, I was just a fling. After a month living together, he changed the locks while I was getting a manicure! My things were dumped outside. All he said was, *”Were from different worldsyoure not right for me.”* As if I were some mismatched shoe!

The heartbreak wrecked me. I lost two stone, looked like a ghost. My hair fell outI wore wigs or hats. My health suffered, especially after rapid weight loss. I had surgeries, took medication, even tried herbal remedies. Nothing worked.

So I focused on my career. Id always loved nail art, so I trained as a manicurist. Clients came in droves, paying well. I took out a mortgage on a small flat, saved for a car, and by 33, I opened my own salon. A team of young girls works with me now.

Then, two years ago, I met Daniel. He worked nearby, popped in to break a £20 note, andjust like thatI fell in love. We moved in quickly, married soon after. Then came the longing for children.

Nothing happened naturallyour age made it difficult. So I turned to IVF. Every night, I prayed, *”Please, God, let me be a mother. Let me do this right.”*

And He listened. I delivered two healthy babiesan easy birth, against the odds.

*”Have you lost your mind? Children at your age? What were you thinking?”* My mothers voice crackled down the line.

*”Good grief, Ill be a grandmother soon, and youre having babies? Youre too old for this!”* my sister shrieked.

No one in the family supported us. Only Daniel and a photographer waited outside the hospital. We took a few keepsake photos, then drove home.

The twins are a month old now. Neither my mother nor sister will visit. They say Ive shamed them, that having children this late is a disgrace.

But is it so wrong to want a family? Is that really a sin?
